It has been quite a while since I wrote anything here. Better late than never! I am currently in Los Angeles and had a writing session yesterday with Paul Doucette. It is a completely different experience to write with nothing in mind other than the act of writing. Something original really comes out. The power of how two people write and what they do when put together is really cool. In the past I have only ever written with people that I was in a band with, so this was a fun experience.
Afterward, I went to the CNN Heroes Awards show. My fiance Jesse was working with Bon Jovi and they were playing. It was incredible. I sat in the second row on the right side. There were all kinds of actors and musicians seated around me. I have never attended a taped awards show, so it was interesting in itself to be told to make the applause louder, or "we need to cut that again because something strange happened with the visual entrance of Renee Zelweger." I was incredibly moved and inspired by all the heroes that were being awarded. Every person did something different. The most moving to me was the woman who ended winning hero of the year, Anuradha Koirala. Anuradha has been working to fight human trafficking. We all know about the problem of young girls being taken away and being forced to work in brothels. Demi Moore presented this award to her and I thought she said one sentence which was pretty awesome. "Real men don't buy women." I have been thinking of starting an organization that bridges other humanitarian organizations together. After leaving the show it start the wheels turning again.
I also got together with Alex and Angela Dezen (The Damnwells) so that we could talk about what songs to sing while on tour. They recently moved to Los Angeles from Iowa. Alex has a truly amazing voice. I am really looking forward to playing with him every night.
More soon,
Courtney
